Contractor register - International - Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the register for?
The objective of the Register is to enable AWI to easily identify organisations that have the necessary skills to undertake project and consultancy work.
2. Who is AWI?
AWI is a commercial research and development company owned by approximately 33,000 woolgrower shareholders.
AWI invests in research, development and innovation projects along the wool pipeline with the main aim of increasing the long-term profitability of Australian wool growers.
The four key areas along the wool pipeline are:
- Wool Production
- Textile Technology
- Trade Development
- Information and Education
3. When do applications close?
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
4. How can I confirm you have received my application?
When you send your application via email an automated response will be sent to you to confirm that AWI has received it.
If you send your application in the mail, AWI will send an email to you confirming it has received it.
5. When will I know if my organisation has been registered?
You will receive written notification from AWI if your organisation has been registered.
AWI will also notify an organisation in writing if it has not been successful.
6. What are the criteria for being registered?
AWI is seeking to establish a database with reputable organisations who are able to demonstrate expertise in the areas that AWI conducts its business in.
AWI will evaluate each application to ensure that only organisations who meet this criteria are registered.
7. Do I have to number all of the boxes in section 5 for the Organisation Areas of Expertise?
No, you can number as many boxes as is appropriate to your areas of expertise.
8. What happens if I've answered something incorrectly?
Please make sure you have included a Contact Person and their details. If AWI has any questions or requires additional information, this is the person it will contact directly.
9. Can I apply if I don't have a company? For example, individuals.
Yes, while AWI prefers to contract with limited liability companies, it will still receive applications from individuals.
10. How much work could I expect to get from AWI?
AWI will not guarantee that your organisation will receive any work from AWI.
To provide you with an idea of the size of AWI's investment, AWI expects to invest approximately $80m in its four key areas along the wool pipeline during 2005/06:
- Wool Production
- Textile Technology
- Trade Development
- Corporate Affairs
11. Will AWI only use those organisations on the register?
Yes, in the main AWI will only use those organisations on the register.
12. Can I approach AWI with ideas?
Yes, AWI encourages organisations to approach it with innovative ideas that will help it to achieve its aim of improving the long-term profitability of wool growers. Special forms are on this website.
Prior to making a submission it is always a good idea to contact AWI and discuss your idea / proposal with the relevant Program Manager. Their details are also available on the AWI website.
13. Who will have access to the information about my organisation?
Read only access to the Contractor Register will be given to AWI staff. All AWI staff are required and aware of their obligations to keep information confidential.
The updating of any information in the Contractor Register will be centrally managed by the Financial Services Department.
14. How will my information on the Contractor database be protected from mis-use or access by a third party?
All information is stored in accordance with Australian privacy legislation - AWI will not use or disclose any private information to any third party without your prior consent.
Any electronic records are secured by username and password authentication, and all passwords are changed on a frequent basis in accordance with AWI's Computer Usage policy.
15. What is AWI's purchasing policy, for example, how many organisations will quote on a particular job?
AWI's Purchasing Policy covers a number of scenarios including where an organisation has approached AWI with an innovative idea and is seeking some funding to a Request for Services by AWI.
For the later, AWI will seek quotes / proposals from three organisations.
16. Can an organisation get de-registered? If yes, how?
Yes, an organisation can be de-registered. De-registration is at the sole discretion of AWI.
It is most likely to be due to poor performance by the organisation in completing the tasks AWI had contracted it to do.
17. Can I ask for my organisation to be taken off the Register?
Yes, you can request this at any time by writing to AWI.
18. Once I'm registered do I remain on the Register indefinitely?
No, AWI will contact you each year and ask you to re-register. In addition, AWI will advertise each year for new organisations to apply for registration. If during the year, details change, please contact AWI immediately.
19. How many areas of expertise can I list?
You can list as many as you can demonstrate that you have expertise in. You must be able to provide AWI with details of work you have completed in each area of expertise you identify.
20. Does it cost anything to become registered?
No.
21. What is the consequence of stating my organisation will not use AWI's standard contract(s)?
In the main AWI will only use those organisations who have agreed to use AWI's standard contract(s).
