Product Development Proposals

In an off-farm context, areas of interest to AWI include wool science and non-apparel products. However, greatest current importance is in the development of knitwear and woven fabrics that satisfy a number of challenges.

Use the Off-farm proposal template (Word 264Kb) Please note: applications closed 8 September 2006. 2007 dates will be published when available.

There are four major programs in Product Development that AWI is currently providing finance for funding:

  • Knitwear
  • Woven
  • Non-apparel
  • Wool science

For the financial year 2006-7, most of the funding will be allocated to product development in the knitwear and woven programs. As funding for the non-apparel and wool science programs are heavily committed, AWI is inviting applications in the following areas:

  • Development of novel apparel formed by knit construction using flatbed, V-bed, circular and warp knitting frames with enhanced fabric properties such as softness; anti-pilling; machine washability; and treatment to impart new functionality such as water-proofing or stain resistance. The highest priority in this area is the elimination or minimising of pilling. These knitwear products cover menswear, womenswear, corporate and sportswear.
  • Development of novel woven fabrics with one or more of the following properties: light weight; softness; drape; good wrinkle recovery; machine washability; and treatment to impart new functionality such as water-proofing or stain resistance. The highest priority in this area is the elimination or minimising of wrinkling. These woven products cover menswear, womenswear, corporate and sportswear.
